Landlords and occupiers have begun assessing the damage to property in Hemel Hempstead following yesterday’s explosion at the Buncefield Oil Storage terminal.
Europe’s largest peacetime blaze erupted following three explosions at the Buncefield complex yesterday morning shortly after 6am.
Police have closed off the area near to the explosion – preventing anyone entering 800 yards to the site of the explosion.
Only managing directors of companies based in the immediate vicinity have been allowed to inspect their properties to carry out disaster recovery plans.
The largest site to be hit by the explosion is Astral’s and Blackstone’s 465,000 sq ft Mammoth warehouse, which is adjacent to the oil terminal.
The scheme was developed this year.
Meanwhile, a surge of industrial and office requirements in the Hemel Hempstead area is expected in the next few days as affected occupiers seek short term and alternative accommodation.
