Egerton on the move again
Frank Sanderson (right), the man who built up Bovis in the 1960s and 1970s, is taking another big step with his latest vehicle, Egerton Trust.
He has put in a £10.1m agreed offer for G Percy Trentham, a building and property development business which has been in operation for 80 years. It operates mainly in London and the South East and employs 700 people.
Like Bovis, Trentham operates at the top end of the building market, and counts Eagle Star Properties, Slough Estates, Arlington Securities and many other well known plcs among its client list.
In the development field, Trentham has completed joint ventures with Scottish Metropolitan Property in Chester and Kingston, and it is involved in sheltered housing and a commercial development at Chesham, Buckinghamshire.
Egerton, meanwhile, continues to produce better results. Latest figures for the half year to June 30 1987 show pre-tax profits of £1.51m (£647,000), while earnings per share have risen from 3.31p to 4.79p.
Mr Sanderson says the directors regard the results as very satisfactory, being above internal forecasts and achieved in a period of unusually poor weather conditions.
The interim dividend is to be 1.25p.
