Completions climb at Countryside

Countryside has reported a 17% increase in completions in its first quarter.

The developer delivered 1,280 homes in the period to 31 December.

It said performance for the period is in line with expectations for the full year.

Last year, Countryside embarked on a strategy to overhaul the business. It appointed Rothschild & Co to advise the separation of its housebuilding business to focus on partnership.

The plans came amid a high-profile and scathing attack from activist shareholder Browning West. Countryside’s chairman David Howell also announced plans to stand down and the housebuilder is currently seeking his replacement.

In the first quarter, 70% of completions came from the partnerships business, up by 4% on the previous year, with a boost from housebuilding, which was up by 56% with delayed completions from the previous year.

Group chief executive Iain McPherson said: “We continue to win new business as we progress our accelerated growth strategy. The plans set out last summer for regional expansion are on track and we are progressing the separation of our two divisions.”
