Bridgend council has imposed a compulsory purchase order on Sker House, in south Glamorgan. This enables the Buildings at Risk Trust to acquire the freehold of the crumbling house and 2.43ha (six acres) for £1. The lottery fund has offered £413,000 for repairs of the Elizabethan property and Cadw (the Welsh equivalent of English Heritage) has offered £250,000 for removal and reconstruction of the farm buildings.
It could become a private house that must be open at least 28 days a year or a restaurant.
