More than 70 companies will be exhibiting their latest software at the second “Construction Industry Computer Exhibition”, organised by RIBA Services at the Barbican from February 11 to 13. It is designed to provide those engaged in the construction industry with an update on computer usage, and to give guidance to those individuals or companies just about to install computer systems.
The conference is divided into five sessions and attendance at each one costs £75. Individual sessions have been set aside to cater specifically for the needs of engineers, quantity surveyors and architects. In the latter case emphasis is placed on the use of computer-aided design (CAD) systems. In addition, one session is devoted to making maximum use of standard software, and another explores future developments in the technology of communications. The sessions on the second day are aimed at bringing together the construction industry’s computing interests.
A number of project planning packages will be demonstrated at the conference, including Abtex Software’s widely used PERTMASTER package. This system contains a “zoom” mode which enables users to build project networks graphically on-screen (see photograph). Other software companies demonstrating their wares include BCIS, On-Line, Quill Computer Systems, Eclipse Associates and Construction Computing.
