Conferences

Fancy a trip to Paris? If so, Blenheim Queensdale have provided a good excuse by oraganising a conference on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in the construction industry. EDI-BUILDING, as it is called, will be held on January 16-18 at the Centre for New Industry and Technology (CNIT), Paris.

The conference organisers describe EDI as “the transfer of structured business data between independent computer systems by electronic means.” EDI-BUILDING will illustrate how organisations in the construction industry may improve their performance by adopting EDI.

The keynote address, for example, will be presented by Martin Bouygues, president of Bouygues (France), a company who have committed themselves fully to the use of information technology.

In addition to France, speakers will represent the construction industries of Great Britain (Trafalgar House) and Sweden (Skanska). Adjoining the conference will be a demonstration of EDI products and services which have a direct application to the building industry. Further information from Tessa Berry, Blenheim Queensdale Ltd, 137 Blenheim Crescent, London W11 2EQ (01-727 1929).

Closer to home, the Construction Industry Computer Exhibition and Conference is to be held at the Barbican Exhibition Halls, London, on January 30 to February 1 1990. This event will concentrate on the following themes: computer-aided design, interior design, GIS for municipal engineers, facilities management, project management and databases for the construction librarian.
