The Connect consortium has won the £75m Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DFBO) contract for the A30/A35 between Exeter in Devon and Bere Regis in Dorset. The consortium is made up of BICC, Phillipp Holzmann AG and WS Atkins.
The scheme’s two main elements comprise improvements to the A30 between Honiton and Exeter and the A35 Tolpuddle to Puddletown bypass. The A30 project involves construction of a 21 km (13 mile) dual carriageway from Jctn 29 on the M5 through to the existing dual carriageway section of the A30.
The A35 Tolpuddle to Puddleton bypass will provide a new 9.3km (5.8 mile) two lane dual carriageway bypassing both villages.
Connect will be responsible over the next 30 years for the maintenance and operation of the trunk road which covers 105km (65 miles) in total.
