Connecting tomorrow’s leaders

The opportunity to hear from industry leaders about their routes into property and top tips for new entrants is as educational for the young as it is for established real estate players.

Proof was in the faces in the crowd at EG’s inaugural Connecting Tomorrow’s Leaders event held on 13 July.

They gathered in the striking London dockside building, The Crystal, E16, and absorbed the wisdom and the experiences from more than 30 speakers as they explained their roles in the many stages of property development and asset management.

From Manchester Airport Group chief executive Lynda Shillaw’s comment: “I’d rather say what’s on my mind, so someone will consider it, than not say it at all”, to Brockton’s David Marks’ revelation that he sent young employees to live in the Old Oak-based co-living hub of The Collective, when it went up for sale, to the RICS’s Barry Cullen remark that a new virtual reality app to encourage school leavers into property is “the most innovative thing we’ve ever done”, there were golden nuggets for everyone.

The trials and tribulations of running networking events, from representatives of Propski, ULI UK Young Leaders, The Apprentice Network and studentsurveyor.com, concluded the day’s programme, with delegates moving onto Skylight Bar in Tobacco Dock for the Propski 2018 launch party in aid of LandAid’s Grenfell Tower fund.
