A consortium of Chinese investors has submitted plans for a £65m mixed-use tower in Sheffield city centre.
New Era Square will comprise 20 storeys of commercial, residential and leisure space in an area between London Road and Bramall Lane.
It will also include an exhibition hall and a China Business Incubator.
The scheme is being developed by New Era Development, a property company backed by six Chinese private investors.
Jerry Cheung, managing director of New Era Development, said: “The investors from China are key business individuals and are very keen to promote and showcase the incubator facility we are looking to create in Sheffield to their contacts in the Far East.”
Deputy prime minister and Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg said: “I believe that the New Era Development is an outstanding chance to move our city forward and build on our strong business relationship with China.”
A planning application has been submitted to Sheffield city council. Construction is expected to begin by 2015. Completion on the first phase of work is targeted for 2016.
