Construction activity hit a four-month high in April, with the purchasing managers’ index for the sector rising to an above-expectations 53.1 from 52.2 a month earlier.
The civil engineering subsector grew at its fastest rate for 13 months, while housebuilding had its best month since December.
That compensated for a lower reading for the commercial building subsector.
