Jon Cookson has been appointed as the new head of Colliers International’s Birmingham office – its largest office outside London.
The new role will start from 1 April.
The corporate restructuring specialist replaces interim head Jon Webber, who took over the role in January after long-term head David Smeeton unexpectedly quit after eight years in the position to join Cushman & Wakefield as head of investment in Birmingham.
Cookson joined Colliers in 2008 to lead its corporate restructuring team and during his time with the firm he has built a team of 20 specialist advisers operating across the UK. He will continue to manage this team as well as lead the Birmingham office.
Tony Horrell, UK chief executive for Colliers International, said: “Jon’s experience and broad network across our UK business makes him well placed to take on the increased responsibility of leading the Birmingham office.”
Colliers has been involved in a number of large deals in the Midlands recently, including advising the Rigby Group on the sale of Imperial Park at Coventry Airport for £55m; GLL Real Estate’s acquisition of 1 Brindleyplace from Trinova Real Estate; and the acquisition of 158 pubs from Punch Taverns on behalf of NewRiver Retail for £53m – the biggest tenanted pub deal of 2015.
