One of only 17 elected mayors in the UK, George Ferguson said the responsibilities associated with the position allowed him the power make decisions and push them through in a way that has previously been difficult for Bristol.
He also cited the creation of a great western powerhouse, to rival that of the North, saying: “My belief is we need scale as well. It is a matter of putting together the major areas of population and activity and growth, to make an offer that matches that of the North. ”
