The West Cornwall Initiative has launched a bid for government and European funding to support a three-year £40m investment programme. It is aimed at helping to start 400 businesses in the area. A report published yesterday by Kerrier District Council shows Cornwall suffers from a depth of poverty which is obscured by the picture postcard image of the county.
