Corporate insolvencies 76% higher than before pandemic

Corporate insolvencies rose sharply in England and Wales in December, to 76% higher than before the pandemic.

Data from the Insolvency Service showed that the number of registered company insolvencies reached 1,964. That is 32% higher than in the same month of 2021, and 76% higher than in December 2019.

There were 183 compulsory liquidations in December 2022, more than three and a half times as many as in December 2021 and 8% higher than in December 2019.

Creditors’ voluntary liquidations rose to 1,659 at the end of last year, 22% higher than in December 2021 and more than double the figure in December 2019.
