Discount warehouse operator Costco plans to open 40 megastores in the UK.
The company is interested in regenerating brownfield sites for its huge 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) stores. It hopes to defend its position against US giant Wal-Mart, which has recently taken over the Asda supermarket chain.
