Costs take a slice off Pizza Express

Pizza Express has blamed industry-wide cost pressures, including business rates and minimum wage increases, for slicing almost 8 per cent off its earnings.
The high street restaurant chain said trading “remained resilient” in the first half of the year as it sought to keep on top of diners’ dietary demands by extending its low-calorie and vegan products.
Comparable sales were broadly flat, rising by 0.2 per cent around the world and slipping by 0.2 per cent in the UK and Ireland.
