Gedling Council has backed St Modwen and Sainsbury’s revised outline plan for a mixed use scheme on the listed former Home Brewery site, in Arnold, north Nottingham.
The proposed revised scheme includes a 6,259 sq m (67,373 sq ft) superstore, a petrol station, a car showroom, housing and 2,787 sq m (30,000 sq ft) of industrial accomodation. But the application has been referred to the Environment Secretary under PPG6.
Senior planning officer Stephen Lewis-Roberts described the 6.7ha site as edge of centre.
Meanwhile, Asda has submitted a detailed planning application to increase the size of its store in the centre of Arnold from 3,363 sq m to 4,181sq m (36,200 sq ft to 45,005 sq ft). The firm organised a public meeting under the banner of “Save our town centre”.
