Council boosts Westbourne Green regeneration plans

Westminster City Council is pushing ahead with plans for the £41m regeneration of Westbourne Green, W2.

At a Cabinet meeting this week, the council agreed to provide Camal Architects with £300,000 to undertake further feasibility studies and draw up a planning application for the regeneration scheme. The plans will be presented in June 2002, with work expected to start on site in July 2003 and to last around two years.

The £41m housing scheme, which will include a highly controversial waste management depot, has been on the council’s drawing board for nearly four years. The council has selected Chesterfield as preferred developer, although alternative companies have not been ruled out.

The council plans to take on £25m of the development cost for the scheme, while the remaining £16m will come from private and public housing funds.
