Council files plans to tear down Nottingham’s Broadmarsh Centre

Nottingham City Council has filed planning applications to knock down the remainder of the Broadmarsh Centre.

There have been no proposals for redeveloping the shopping centre after demolition, according to the documents.

A section of the three-storey centre, formerly operated by intu, has already been partly demolished. Works on that part were paused last year after the Covid-19 outbreak.

If the proposals proceed, demolition works are expected to complete in April next year.

The council, which has invested £17m in plans to redevelop the location, was awarded an £8m government grant through the D2N2 local enterprise partnership last year to transform the shopping centre.

The keys to the centre were handed back to the council last summer after intu collapsed into administration.
