Council poised to approve Olympia London redevelopment

Proposals for the £700m revamp of London exhibition venue Olympia are set to get the go-ahead from Hammersmith and Fulham Council, unless the mayor of London intervenes.

Plans for the 130-year-old centre, owned by Deutsche Finance and Yoo Capital, will be put to the committee on 30 January.

The redevelopment, in W14, is subject to “no contrary direction from the mayor for London”, according to council documents.

Otherwise, council officers have recommended that the committee should authorise the application and grant permission, as long as it meets legal conditions.

Designed by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC, the scheme would include new facilities for the exhibition centre, as well as the creation of 70,000 sq ft of co-working space, 600,000 sq ft of creative offices and studios and 2.5 acres of public realm.

It also aims to offer 73,000 sq ft of theatre and performing arts space, as well as new hotels, cinemas and restaurants.
