Council reconsiders Oxford United scheme

Oxford United FC’s half-built stadium may be saved, after Oxford city council said it might approve leisure complex plans adjacent to the site.

The complex will include a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, bingo hall and hotel. The council said it will grant permission for the complex next to Minchery Farm providing the club can satisfy visual and signage concerns.

The club started building the stadium in 1996, but had to stop in 1997 due to lack of funds.
