Trinity Investments has been appointed by Calderdale Council from a six-strong short list to develop a £15m two-storey retail and leisure centre at Broad Street on the edge of Halifax town centre.
The 12,309sq m scheme comprises four non-food stores for bulky goods, a 929sq m (10,000sq ft) food store reserved for Netto, a multi-screen cinema and three restaurants. The cinema and leisure element totals about 5,574sq m (60,000sq ft).
The site, which is adjacent to the Town Hall, is in a Conservation Area, and is currently a surface car park. The new scheme will have on site parking for 850 cars.
Alan Black, of Donaldsons Leeds office (the council’s advisers), said the bulky goods requirement reflected the councils desire to protect the existing town centre retailing and its proposals for a 9,290sq m (100,000sq ft ) shopping centre at Westgate. Last year, Donaldsons produced a retail strategy for the council.
Architect is Wakefield-based John M Harris Design Partnership. Trinity was advised by Walker Singleton Stewart Newiss and Hillier Parker.
