Westminster City Council is to move in to Land Securities’ long-standing Strand, WC2, offices after the property company departs in 2017.
The council is scheduled to take 57,000 sq ft at the BlackRock-owned office building in 5 Strand, near Trafalgar Square, while its civic headquarters at Westminster City Hall, 64 Victoria Street, SW1, undergoes refurbishment.
Land Securities will move to Victoria before Christmas as it spends £2.2bn redeveloping the area.
The REIT will occupy 48,000 sq ft at 80-100 Victoria Street, SW1, part of its Cardinal Place scheme.
The council will take up the remainder of LandSec’s lease on 5 Strand, which expires in 2018.
Last year BlackRock appointed Alchemi Group as development manager for 5 Strand to work with architect Adjaye Associates to redevelop the 75,000 sq ft 1980s office building after 2018.
It is understood that no agents are acting on the deal.
