Council leaders are concerned that the proposed new regionaldevelopment agencies (RDAs) may be set up without local democraticaccountability.
The Local Government Association says it is: “vitally important thatRDAs are seen to be accountable to regional interests”. A bill toestablish nine English regions from April 1999 will be introduced inparliament in the autumn. The government will be establishing theagencies without statutory regional chambers as first envisaged.
