Councils are now legally required to publish details of how much funding developers have provided for local communities.
New rules which come into force today will mean details of developers’ community contributions will be made publicly available.
Housing minister Esther McVey said: “The new rules coming into force today will allow residents to know how developers are contributing to the local community when they build new homes – whether that’s contributing to building a brand-new school, roads or a doctor’s surgery that the area needs.”
Alongside the new rules, new planning guidance on the community infrastructure levy has also been published today.
Councils will be required to publish an annual report on the all the CIL agreements entered into with developers from December 2020.
Restrictions on the CIL will also be eased so councils can fund single, larger infrastructure projects from money received from multiple developments.
