Countrywide warns on earnings

Countrywide warned that earnings this year would be below the prior year level, as commercial and residential activity slowed in London following the vote to leave the European Union.

The company’s pretax profit dropped 25% to £22m in H1, while revenue rose 9% to £370m.

The slowdown in Countrywide’s retail and residential business prior to the referendum has become more marked since then in London, the southeast and expensive prime markets, chief executive Alison Platt said.
