Coventry Airport goes to market

Coventry Airport has been put up for sale by its shareholders and directors, who have in turn appointed KMPG as advisors to the sale.

The airport has seen more than £6m invested in infrastructure, including upgrading the airport ground lighting system and resurfacing of the runway in the last few years.

However, more money is needed to fund the airport’s expansion.

Coventry Airport director Brian Cox said: “Coventry Airport offers excellent potential, giving the prospective buyer a wealth of opportunities.

“We look forward to reaching an agreement with a scheduled passenger carrier in the near future.

“Presently we are concentrating on developing the airport as a ‘Midland hub’ for cargo, executive jets and ad hoc charter operations.”

Last October, West Midlands International Airport, which owns and operates Coventry Airport, lost its high court battle to build a new passenger terminal.

The high court declined to quash the decision of the secretary of state for communities and local government and the secretary of state for transport to refuse planning permission for a new £7m passenger terminal.

A planning application for a new 10,000 sq ft terminal was submitted five years ago to enable the airport to handle up to two million passengers per year.
