Coventry breaks stadium talks embargo

Coventry city council has broken an embargo on publicising national stadium discussions with government adviser Pat Carter.

The council, dismayed that during a meeting on Friday Carter had ranked the Coventry bid for a national stadium in third place, revealed that Birmingham was second favourite and Wembley was in first place.

Coventry council officials were angry Carter costed its bid at just under £600m, more than twice its own estimate.
