Coventry tables last-minute EZ bid

The Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership have tabled an eleventh-hour submission for an Enterprise Zone near Coventry airport.

Councillors at Warwick district council voted unanimously in favour of an EZ the day before the deadline to submit bids to the government on the 30 June.

The EZ will also cover the Tollbar A45/A46 junction area.

Chairman of the LEP Denys Short said: “The Coventry and Warwickshire Gateway Enterprise Zone is the most important business development to in our region for many years.

“We believe we have an extremely strong case for an Enterprise Zone, which meets all the government criteria.”

He added: “This exciting development will create up to 14,000 new jobs; 4000 of which will be accelerated.”

Under government guidelines the EZ would benefit from a simplified planning regime and business rate exemption for the first five years.
