Covid impact on GDP worse than feared

The UK economy recorded its biggest fall in output in more than 300 years in 2020.

According to revised official figures from the Office for National Statistics, the pandemic dealt a bigger blow than previously thought.

Gross domestic product fell by 11%, the ONS said yesterday, rather than the previous estimate of 9.3%.

That equates to the biggest fall since 1709 and the largest economic slump in the G7.
