Covid no challenge for Escape Hunt’s expansion

Escape Hunt, an AIM-listed company that runs escape rooms, expects to hit its target for new openings despite the pressures of the pandemic.

The company said in a trading update that its sites have performed well since reopening on 17 May, with revenue during the five weeks since 47% higher than in the same period two years ago.

Escape Hunt opened five new owner-operated sites in the UK during the last 12 months. Two of those – in Watford and Kingston – opened for the first time in May, while its sites in Norwich, Basingstoke and Cheltenham opened in the second half of 2020 but have had limited trading due to lockdowns.

Work has also started at a planned site in the Lakeside shopping centre and contracts are due to be exchanged at a site in Milton Keynes soon.

“Games have already been ordered for both sites, with several already in storage awaiting installation,” the company said. “Management remains confident of achieving the target of 20 owner-operated sites well ahead of the original target date of June 2022 despite the impact of Covid-19.”
