Christian Candy’s CPC Group and Qatari Diar have unveiled fresh designs for for their £3bn redevelopment of Chelsea Barracks, SW1, including a £40m community sports centre.
The 2.5m sq ft plans, which are due to go before Westminster council’s planning committee this evening, are being opposed by local residents because of a perceived lack of public space and community facilities.
Project Blue, the joint venture behind the plans, revealed today that alongside 638 flats the plans comprise a £40m community sports centre built “100% for the public” including a six lane, 25-metre swimming pool, a four-court sports hall, climbing wall, dance studios and exercise equipment.
There will also be a large multi-purpose community hall, a supermarket, a children’s playground and landscaped gardens.
In addition there will be a boutique hotel with two restaurants, a day spa and shops. Christian Candy said: “This site offers an opportunity to deliver one of the most important regeneration projects in London.”
