A Derbyshire trucking company faces a £400,000 bill after its crane smashed into a motorway bridge causing massive damage and disruption to traffic.
Hills (Pye Bridge) Ltd, of Pye Bridge Industrial Estate, Pye Bridge, Derbyshire, was sued by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions over the accident that occurred between junctions four and five of the M5.
Following a previous accident in 1993 that resulted in the replacement of one of the crane’s supporting beams, Hills signed an “indemnity”.
Hills did not dispute liability in the case, and has agreed to an out of court settlement, to pay £400,000, plus legal costs to the DETR.
