An inquiry by the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) has concluded that travellers and Gipsies must be provided with more legal sites to ease community tensions and stop the spread of illegal encampments.
Its report said that 500 acres of land needed to be set aside. This was the only “sustainable solution” to unwanted camps.
The body said new locations should have the same funding and attention as other public housing.
