The Crown Estate has hired former Grosvenor Britain and Ireland director Simon Harding-Roots as managing director for its London portfolio.

Harding-Roots was at Grosvenor for five years until July 2020. During his time there he oversaw the overall strategy and led the major projects team as executive director, delivering real estate investment and regeneration projects across London valued at around £2bn.

Before that, he was chief operations officer at Imperial College London for three years. He has also held senior roles in the international property market, including with Treasury Holdings Group in China, Arcapita Bank in Bahrain and Majid Al Futtaim in Dubai.

Harding-Roots also serves as an independent governor of council for City, University of London.

He will join the Crown Estate in September. Its £7.7bn London portfolio spans 10m sq ft of office, retail, dining, leisure and residential space.

Dan Labbad, chief executive of the Crown Estate, said: “The Crown Estate’s iconic London portfolio has an important role to play in supporting the capital’s post-pandemic recovery over the coming years, and Simon brings both purpose and a wealth of expertise to support this endeavour.”

Harding-Roots said: “While the last 18 months have brought huge levels of challenge and structural change to our industry and London more generally, this is an exciting time for the Crown Estate and its iconic West End portfolio.”
