Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) has won outline consent for a further 120,000 sq ft (11,150 sq ft) of offices at Braehead business park in Renfrewshire, just outside Glasgow.
CSC received consent for 300,000 sq ft (28,000 sq m) of business space as part of its second phase plans for the giant Braehead scheme last March.
The plans will also see the development of 900 homes and public riverside parkland for the local community. An IKEA store at the site is also being extended.
In addition, there will be a 419,806 sq ft (39,000 sq m) leisure scheme, which includes Scotland’s first snowdome, developed by Capital & Regional subsidiary Xscape, as well as a 175-bed hotel, cinema, health club, and specialist sports and leisure shops.
Phase two will see the regeneration of 165 acres (66.77ha) surrounding the existing Braehead centre – the largest area of derelict land in Renfrewshire.
Richard Cable, director of CSC, said: “The business parks at Braehead offer occupiers a wide range of opportunities and have the potential to create several thousand new jobs.”
Phase one of development included the £500m Braehead shopping centre, which opened in September 1999.
The 600,000 sq ft (55,740 sq m) centre is anchored by Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury’s.
The first phase also included a 250,000 sq ft (23,225 sq m) retail park anchored by B&Q, plus the IKEA store and 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m) of leisure.
