CSC unveils £240m Nottingham centre expansion

Capital Shopping Centres has unveiled plans for a £240m expansion to its Victoria Centre in Nottingham.

CSC proposes to add one new department store, around 50 shops, a 10-screen cinema and restaurants.

The planned extension would take place on the site of the centre car park, which would be replaced by a new underground car-park beneath the centre.

CSC will submit a planning application for the extension later this year. If plans are approved, the extension could be ready in 2015.

Richard Bowler, Victoria Centre manager, said: “The Victoria Centre has been part of the fabric of Nottingham for 40 years and attracts over 23m customer visits every year. We’ve listened to the local community, stakeholders and experts.”

James Cons, principal architect at Leslie Jones Architects, said: “Our design references Nottingham’s great architectural heritage and will help re-establish Nottingham as one of the country’s top retail destinations. We are proposing to swap a multi-storey car park with a significant gateway building to the north of the city centre, create a brand new bus station, and introduce a covered arcade that offers a new link into the city centre for the local community.”
