Cubex buys former fire service HQ in Bristol

Bristol developer Cubex has bought the former HQ off Avon Fire and Rescue in Bristol city centre, as predicted by EG in May.

The acquisition is backed by Palmer Capital Development Fund IV, a jv between CBRE GIP and Palmer Capital.

It is planning a mixed-use scheme for the site that, subject to planning, will incorporate 100,000 sq ft of offices and 300 homes for the rental market.

The site is opposite Cubex’s speculative Aurora office development, which will be 85% let by practical completion in July, and its £225m Finzels Reach scheme, which includes residential and leisure elements.

Gavin Bridge, executive director of Cubex, said: “We plan to bring our strong local knowledge and track record of delivery in Bristol to speculatively develop our next sustainable office building of the same quality as Aurora, along with a series of apartment buildings likely to be aimed at the build to rent market.”

Initial public consultations are likely to begin in the autumn of this year with a start on-site in 2019.
