A 475m cultural quarter called Grand Canal Square is being planned for Dublin’s south docklands. Dublin Docklands Development Authority has sold the land for the two separate schemes, at Grand Canal Harbour, to Ryde Developments and Devey, having approved their plans. Ryde plans 103,000 sq ft of offices, 21,900 sq ft of retail in four units and up to 11,100 sq ft of waterfront cafés. Ryde paid 10m (£6.7m) for its site. Devey plans a 94-room aparthotel, a 2,000-seat theatre (left) designed by architect Daniel Libeskind and a performing arts centre. Devey has signed Park Hyatt to operate the hotel, which will be designed by Manuel Aires Mateus. Completion of Grand Canal Square is set for 2007.
