Cushman & Wakefield to review Leatherhead shopping centre

Mole Valley District Council has appointed Cushman & Wakefield to review development options for the Swan Shopping Centre in Leatherhead, following a competitive tender process.

The council, which bought the centre in 2016, plans to revamp Leatherhead town centre’s retail and leisure offer as part of a regeneration masterplan.

Cushman & Wakefield’s review will devise recommendations for the shopping centre, ranging from small-scale modifications to wholesale redevelopment.

The process will be carried out in partnership with architects Child Graddon Lewis and structural engineering firm Conisbee.

John Percy, head of retail development and place at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “How residents and visitors interact with town centres continues to evolve.

“In those that are thriving, a compelling retail and leisure offer plays a central role, acting as a focal point for the wider community and a destination in its own right.”

The agency’s retail development and place team is also a strategic property adviser to Derby City Council on its city centre masterplan.

It also holds an advisory role for Newcastle City Council on its Northumberland Street Area transformation project, and previously acted for Birmingham City Council on Grand Central Birmingham.
