Avant Homes has seen customer satisfaction plunge since former Persimmon boss Jeff Fairburn took control in 2021.
Fairburn, who was ousted from Persimmon in 2018 after a row about his £82m bonus and complaints about the quality of its building, teamed up with US hedge fund Elliott in 2021 to buy Avant Homes for a reported £500m.
He previously bought a 50% stake in Yorkshire builder Berkeley DeVeer in 2020.
The latest national new homes customer satisfaction survey by the Home Builders Federation shows satisfaction has plunged at Avant. In the fourth quarter of 2022, it dropped to 80.5%, from more than 90% in 2021, giving it, by some margin, the worst rating of the big builders.
Avant, which builds about 2,000 home a year, has now lost its five-star rating.
