The world’s richest living artist, Damien Hirst, has submitted plans for the development of 750 homes in Illfracombe, North Devon.
The outline application prepared by David Locke Associates on behalf of Resign and submitted to North Devon council envisages the transformation of 187 acres of land south of Illfracombe.
Hirst’s proposals include a new school, shops, sports facilities, a health centre and open spaces.
If approved at a hearing next summer, the development is expected to take 10 to 15 years to complete.
Architect Mike Rundell, who designed the scheme, said Hirst was determined the houses would be “the kind of homes he would want to live in”.
