Søstrene Grene, a Danish homeware retailer, is to open a 5,000 sq ft store at the Coach House in York.
The deal comes after bar and restaurant operator the Alchemist pulled out of an agreement to move into the Coach House earlier this year due to conditions placed on it by City of York Council’s licensing committee.
Coach House, located on the corner of Nessgate and Low Ousegate, forms a part of Helmsley Group’s Coney Street Riverside regeneration.
Søstrene Grene is expanding across the UK, with other branches already operating in Sheffield, Manchester, Chester, Derby and London. The new store will offer affordable ranges of contemporary interiors, hobby items, children’s toys and soft furniture.
Tom Riddolls, development surveyor at Helmsley, said: “This is another positive addition to Coney Street and its neighbouring areas and complements our vision to revitalise this part of the city centre, including opening up the riverfront for the enjoyment of all.”
Pudney Shuttleworth and Reesdenton are joint agents at the Coach House.
