Jacuna Kitchens has submitted plans for a 5,100 sq ft location in Hackney, E8, as part of a push to operate 500 delivery-only kitchens by the end of this year.
The dark kitchen platform already operates some 200 kitchens across 12 sites in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. It has a further 12 locations in the pipeline.
Proposals for the Hackney site, which consists of a warehouse and a yard for van and scooter parking at 16 Andre Street, were filed with Hackney London Borough Council. It is aiming to install 12 kitchens at the site.
Jacuna wants to convert the warehouse into a dark kitchen by installing external ventilation and extraction equipment. It plans to invest up to £2m in the site’s refurbishment.
The warehouse is located near a two-way single carriageway road that runs between Downs Park Road and Amhurst Road.
The company expects 10 deliveries a day in its delivery area for the dark kitchen, consisting of six in the morning and four in the afternoon.
In documents filed with the council, the company estimated that there are 1.5m UK food delivery orders per day between the UK’s three major platforms. It also highlighted expectations that the global food delivery industry will grow by 11%-15% over the next five years.
Jacuna was launched in 2019 with the first delivery-only kitchen in Shoreditch. It partnered with LondonMetric a year later. It now runs more than 100 kitchens with the investor.
