Data centres planned for former power station site

Two data centres are being planned for the former site of a power station in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

Willow Developments’ plans are open for public feedback until 19 March, the height of one of the two new buildings having been reduced to a single storey in response to an earlier consultation.

The 16ha site is brownfield land once used as a coal storage yard for the cooling towers of Didcot A Power Station, which was closed in 2013 and has since been demolished.

According to documents lodged with South Oxfordshire District Council, the data centres – which total around 317,000 sq ft – will be used for cloud computing services.

If planning permission is received, the construction of the first of the two buildings is set to begin at the end of the second quarter.
