The original building – The Midland Grand Hotel – was designed and built by the Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott and opened on 5 May 1873.
The redbrick building was saved from demolition in the 1960s following a protest led by then Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman. It has now undergone major renovation as part of a luxury residential and hotel redevelopmenty by LCR and MLC.
The £150m renovation of the 245-room hotel comprises the historic St Pancras Chambers which will house 38 elegant and spacious Victorian bedroom suites, and Barlow House, the new 120,000 sq ft extension that will feature original artwork and contemporary design.
The Marriott International hotel will also house a 350-capacity ballroom, a private club, a barber’s shop and luxury spa, which will include a swimming pool and seven treatment rooms.
