David Wilson comes in first at Newbury

David Wilson Homes has been chosen as preferred developer for a residential scheme on Newbury Racecourse estate, Berkshire.

The residential scheme, on 50-acres the site currently known as Newbury Park, forms part of the proposed overall redevelopment of Newbury Racecourse.

The entire redevelopment will include two hotels, new facilities for the racecourse professionals and additional hospitality and catering facilities for race-goers.

An infrastructure investment of around £45m, likely to involve the building of a new bridge, is required in order for the proposed development to gain planning permission.

Consultation with stakeholders closes as the end of this month after which time a proposal for detailed consent will be submitted to Berkshire Borough Council.

Greg Locke, Chief Executive David Wilson Homes commented: “The awarding of preferred developer status for the surplus land at Newbury Racecourse is a major coup for David Wilson Homes.

“We were able to demonstrate to Newbury Racecourse that we had the necessary skills and track record in providing high quality residential homes which would enhance the overall development of Newbury Racecourse in its quest to remain one of the UK’s finest sporting and conference venues.”

John Terry, Special Projects Director for David Wilson Homes, commented “We aim to develop residential homes on Newbury Park which are in keeping with the overall aesthetics of Newbury Racecourse and to enhance the racing experience.”
