De Niro’s Covent Garden hotel approved

Robert-De-Niro-REXActor Robert de Niro,  BD Hotels and Capital & Counties have been given the green light for a luxury hotel in Covent Garden, WC2.

The Wellington Hotel would be De Niro’s first hotel outside of the US, where he worked on the Greenwich Hotel in New York with partners Ira Drukier and Richard Born.

He is also launching a hotel in Shoreditch, E1, with Nobu Matsuhisa.

The team has secured permission to redevelop 25-31 Wellington Street, WC2, as the Wellington Hotel.

Bordered by Wellington Street, Tavistock Street, Burleigh Street and Exeter Street, the Wellington Hotel will span six buildings, three of which are Grade II listed

The boutique hotel will have 83 bedrooms and the development will also house a restaurant, spa, shops, offices and a private members club.

Gerald Eve advised on the scheme.

Work is scheduled to start in 2017, with construction being completed in 2019.
