JR Smart is planning a 250,000 sq ft mixed-use project on a plot of land it has purchased from the Welsh government at Callaghan Square in Cardiff. The developer has plans for a £100m scheme comprising offices, hotels and residential, in a project dubbed John Street. It is adjacent to its Capital Quarter development.

Manchester partner sought
Manchester city council’s joint venture with the Homes and Communities Agency is seeking a development partner for the 7,000-home Northern Gateway regeneration project. The partner will be expected to build the homes over 10-15 years on former industrial heartland around the Lower Irk Valley, New Cross and Collyhurst.

Savills hires C&W’s Ingleby
Savills has recruited Cushman & Wakefield’s chief operating officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Philip Ingleby has left the company just a week after it completed its mega-merger with DTZ. He had been at the company for 13 years. Ingleby will take on the role of chief operating officer for Europe at Savills.

Hewes joins BNP PRE
BNP Paribas Real Estate has hired Gemma Hewes as a director in its City leasing team. Hewes joins from Deloitte Real Estate, where she has spent a decade advising clients including AXA Real Estate, Blackrock, Schroders and Nomura. She will report to BNP PRE’s head of central London office agency, Dan Bayley.

intu’s Butterworth to retire
Mike Butterworth is to retire as chief operating officer at intu Properties on 31 December 2015. Butterworth joined intu after the intu Trafford Centre transaction at the end of 2010, and since then has bolstered the team with four new regional directors, all appointed last year.
