Modus Properties is to develop a 32,530 sq m (350,161.5 sq ft) retail scheme in Wigan and has signed Debenhams as anchor tenant.
Manchester-based Modus has today submitted a planning application to Wigan council for the £55m scheme. The 6,500 sq m (70,000 sq ft) Debenhams store will be on two levels along with six other larger stores and 24 shop units.
Work on the Grand Arcade scheme is expected to begin soon, with completion planned for spring 2004.
Senior councillors have already indicated their support for the scheme. It is expected to help Wigan compete with the Trafford Centre and with Manchesters rejuvenated city centre.
Modus managing director Brendan Flood said: “Our aim has been to ensure that Grand Arcade gives Wigan a competitive edge to compete for business with a widening range of shopping opprtunities and destinations.”
Letting agents are Lunson Mitchenall and Smith Young Moorhouse Wright.
